Like an Onion

.In 2022, I penned this piece in hopes of demystifying and providing structure to the healing journey. My goal was to alleviate fear surrounding the process and encourage individuals to embrace self-discovery and growth.

People have different ideas about healing and why they don’t need it, with some even saying things like “it's not that bad, I just need to...”. If the situation is not that bad, then the healing process will be easier for you, with less to address. However, the benefits for you and those around you will be massive.

Healing is not for the faint of heart. It takes courage and a desire for a better life to actively delve into a world that is full of all the things we have buried deep within over the years. Over time, we continue to stack more and more as our capacity to deal with even the smallest things diminishes. The secrets, shame, heartache, pain, and all the things that have shaped the person who looks back at you in the mirror today.

There is a significant correlation between mental health and physical health. We unknowingly hold so much in our bodies, leading to not only mental suffering but also physical ailments like aches, pains, headaches, and stomach issues, and even more severe conditions.

I always find it interesting when people deny the healing process. My brother, for example, quickly tells me he doesn’t believe it is necessary. I remind him of the monumental moments in his life that he wasn’t in control of, which forced him to face hard truths he was ignoring or unwilling to confront. These moments are part of the healing process. We can choose to take healing into our own hands, examine ourselves, and make changes at our own pace, or we can be forced to face it after years of neglecting ourselves and causing harm to others in the process.

One way or another, we all go through difficult times in our lives. Until we choose to take healing into our own hands, we are victims of our personal struggles, hurting ourselves and those around us as our minds resist the change that our lives are ready for. We are the ones holding ourselves back, preventing ourselves from living our best lives and unintentionally giving others power over us because we have not looked in the mirror.

I began my conscious healing journey in 2008 in pursuit of happiness. I made it my mission to find out if true happiness existed, and if so, I was determined to find it. This journey has been a lifelong adventure, delving into the depths of my mind, behavior, thought patterns, and experiences that have shaped me.

I have had many incredible moments in my healing journey, including awakening, pure joy, and unconditional love. One of the most significant accomplishments over the years was fully accepting my feminine side and embracing its power. Previously, I had suppressed her with self-loathing, believing she was weak, too emotional, and too dramatic. Embracing my feminine side has allowed me to be proud of being a woman and to express love, gentleness, and compassion in ways I never thought possible.

Healing my relationship with femininity has transformed my existence. I no longer experience angry outbursts due to limited emotional range, and I can now navigate challenges with confidence and self-respect. I have learned to stand tall, maintain eye contact, and address misunderstandings with kindness and compassion. I now approach helping others with a newfound gentleness and understanding.

The journey of healing is a continuous process of self-discovery and transformation. It requires exploring and changing every aspect of oneself, from beliefs and habits to communication and behavior. Each lesson learned brings us closer to becoming the person we are proud of, free from societal pressures and expectations.

Healing is a challenging and rewarding adventure that requires courage, self-awareness, and a willingness to change. It is a journey of self-discovery, forgiveness, and acceptance that leads to a deeper understanding of oneself and the world around us.

Are you ready to embark on the adventure of healing and create the most authentic version of yourself? Only you have the answer to that question.
